FRIDAY NIGHT POOLSIDE BBQ BUFFET AT THE ROYALE BINTANG PENANG

Posted by crizlai On March - 18 - 2017

Note: Effective 1 May 2017, Royale Bintang Penang will be renamed as Royale Chulan Penang

Fridays are the days to look forward to each month as The Royale Bintang Penang has been serving great spreads of BBQ items for quite many years – Friday Night Poolside BBQ Buffet. Priced at RM88.00nett (Adult) and RM44.00nett (Child: 6-12 years old/Senior Citizen: 60 years old and above), diners can enjoy the cool breeze of the night by dining next to the hotel’s swimming pool. The spread can be quite extensive, starting from boutique salad, salad bar, soup, hot dishes, long live stations, meat to order bar, DIY hawker dish to a wide selection of desserts and fruit cuts at their Sweet Seventeen station. Don’t forget to enjoy your free-flow of coffee or tea after your hefty meal too.

To start off your meal, do check out the salad and soup station for some sumptuous local and international fare. What caught my attention was the Sup Tulang Rawan Kambing which was pepped with fragrantly selected herbs and spices. It was indeed something delicious to boost up the appetite for more feasts to come. Moreover, it was great to find some local street dish such as the Sotong Kangkung and Thai-style salads such as the Seafood Glass Noodles Salad as well as Mango & Papaya Salad amongst the spreads.

As for the Hot Dishes Station, you have some fried rice and noodles but what interests me was the Baked Pumpkin Wedges which I rarely see at most BBQ buffet. The Jacket Potatoes with Chives Sour Cream was also one great side dishes to go with the BBQ items.

The BBQ and street food adventure would begin at the Long Live Stations and Meat To Order Bar where the aroma along from the wonderful grills would send your saliva dripping furiously. The tender and juiciness from the Royale Spiced Roasted Whole Lamb and flavorful Grilled Minute Steaks are some of the items to look out for. Don’t missed out the Samurai Burger too as the patties were in-house made with perfection.

There’s always some part of the stomach left for some desserts. Do check out the Dessert Station with a mixed of local delicacies to some international cakes and puddings. I quite like the Pengat Pisang Sago which was pepped up with the fragrantly acclaimed Gula Melaka.

Overall, I’m quite satisfied with the spreads for the Friday Night Poolside BBQ Buffet, especially those red meat choices where the meat had that smoky flavors on top of the nice marinates. The best part would be midway into the buffet where the staff would bring out the “surprise” – slipper lobsters. Those mini lobsters are to die for as they were indeed super delicious to resist.

Do also check out their flyers for more promotions.

Penang is known as the food haven of Malaysia and the Royale Bintang Penang also prides itself on the food served that leaves its guests coming back for more. To encourage the guests to come back regularly for the food, The Royale Bintang Penang also launched the “I Love To Makan” monthly Facebook photo contest last year. Guests who dine at any of the food outlets will need to just take a photo of them dining and post it on the hotel’s official Facebook page. The picture with the most number of likes will win attractive prizes from the hotel.

“Penang is one of the most dynamic destinations for business and leisure travel. With the hotel’s unique historical and architectural buildings steeped in British Colonial style, it blends together the modern and multi ethnic heritage of the people who call Penang “home”. It’s been an amazing 3 years and we hope to continue providing luxurious comfort and full amenities for the leisure travellers as well as the perfect setting for celebrations, business meetings and corporate events.” said Philip D. Theseira, General Manager of The Royale Bintang Penang.

As you enter the lobby of the hotel, just walk to the elevator and go to Level 2 of the heritage building. You can see the poolside BBQ there.

When you speak about BBQ on the table, the first thing that would come into your mind would most probably be the Bulgogi, the Korean style BBQ, the Asian style of BBQ Steamboat or maybe the Thai’s Mookata, BBQ Steamboat. How about the Japanese style of grilling meat called Yakiniku? What about a fusion between the Japanese and Korean style of BBQ? Would you love to try on that? For the last decade plus, Kannichikan Yakiniku Restaurant (KNK) has been providing this Japanese styled Korean BBQ concept to the Malaysians starting with its first branch in Penang as far back as August 2000 (more branches are stated below). They are the first to my knowledge to have imported Kuroge Wagyu (Japanese Black) and did the choice cuts themselves as well as providing those diners with acquired taste the options to savor the best of beef “spare parts” such as bowels, intestines, tongues, fardels/multipliers (omasum) and pillar tripes.

KNK01

I had the privilege to be invited not long ago to try out some of the dishes available at the pioneer branch located along the main road of Jalan Tanjung Tokong, Penang. This outlet’s kitchen is managed by a young, energetic and jovial chef named Chef Shelvin Tan Hock Pin, who had years of experience working for the husband and wife owners.

KNK02

KNK do provide some of the best meat cuts such as beef, pork, chicken and seafood for your grilling pleasures. Of course the best cuts would still be the Kuroge Wagyu Rosu (Blackmore Full Blood Wagyu Ribeye – RM108++). This high priced wagyu beef is known for its marbling characteristics and quality with a high percentage of oleaginous unsaturated fat. The grilled meat would flavorful by itself and just melts in your mouth.

KNK03

Another option would be the Wagyu Bara (Premium Wagyu Short Ribs – RM59++). The cuts were mildly marinated with the chef’s secret recipe. Though tender and juicy, you can’t compare the texture and bite with the former as they were of the top quality.

KNK04

Tokuzyo Rosu (Wagyu Ribeye – RM39++) would also be available for your selection. Same as the above, it was mildly marinated to bring out the best in its flavors.

KNK05

Other non-beef options would be the Buta (Pork – RM23++) and the Tori Momo (Chicken Thigh Meat – RM19++). Both the meat cuts came in two different marinates. One would be a simple marinate of sesame oil, salt and pepper while the other one would be with a special combination of sesame oil, chili flakes, sesame seeds, miso with a light touch of apple juice.

KNK06

KNK uses a Japan imported type of biomass briquettes which would sustain high heat for an hour plus and yet produce minimal sparks and little ash, though giving the meat some mild smoky flavors. These briquettes would be filled in a Shichirin, a Japanese barbecue grill with a custom made “netted” brazier that has been preheated at the right temperature to prevent meat from sticking on it. Just a reminder here to diners who have no experience in BBQ techniques. Please be informed that turning or poking at the meat too often would flare up the charcoal, thus making the meat scorched easily.

KNK07

For those who would love to have a try on the Yakiniku, there’s always the KNK Set for Two Pax (RM119++). The cuts given would include Zyo Tan (Prime Beef Tongue), Karubi (Bone-in Prime Short Ribs), Zyo Rosu (Prime Ribeye), Zyo Bara (Prime Short Rib), Harami (Skirt Flank), Kimuchi Moriawase (Kimchi Mix) and Chisya (Lettuce).

KNKSET

Other than just items for grilling, KNK also do provide other precooked dishes such as the Butter Yaki Hotate & Salmon (Butter BBQ Scallop & Salmon – RM35++).

KNK08

For those who prefer some rice dishes, there’s always the Ishiyaki Bibinba (Stone Bowl Rice with Korean Vegetables – RM20++). This is the Japanese version of the Korean’s Bibimbap. There would be some Japanese steamed rice in a hot stone bowl topped with minced chicken, raw egg, spinach, shitake, bean sprouts, carrot, radish and gobo roots (Arctium lappa roots/burdock roots/牛蒡) which has great medicinal properties as blood purifier.

KNK09

For spicy lovers, Karubi Kubba (Spicy Short Ribs Soup with Rice – RM17++) would also be available. You can practically taste the rich stock flavors with a tad of spiciness. Each bowl would come with rice topped with a spicy soup base which consisted of squids, beef, shitake, spinach, bean sprouts, carrot and radish.

KNK10

For a lighter palate, you could order their Wakame Sarada (Seaweed Salad – RM12++). It has a light touch of wasabi dressing just mild enough for anyone.

KNK11

Lastly, I simply love how KNK prepared their Chichimi (Korean Chives Pan Cake – RM18++). It was not as starchy as I had tried elsewhere and with a nice crisp bite. It has basically egg, flour, chopped onions and chives in it. The dish went well with the condiment which has a slight sourness with a touch of fragrant sweetness from the added soy sauce and sesame oil.

KNK12

Overall, Kannichikan Yakiniku Restaurant has the right flavors for the BBQ items. Simplicity is always the best for tasting the original flavors from the chosen meat. Moreover, not many restaurants in Malaysia have the options for so many “spare parts” for grilling and KNK group of branches are the sole restaurants with such availabilities. Speaking of condiments, KNK is also the expert in providing their homemade sauce paired with the right choice of meat.

Kannichikan Yakiniku Restaurant has been in Penang since August 2000. Although it’s visible along the main road of Jalan Tanjung Tokong, it tends to be missed by many locals and visitors as it’s located on the 1st floor of Desa Tanjung. If you are coming up from Pulau Tikus/Bagan Jermal/Gurney Drive into Jalan Tanjung Tokong, drive on until you have reached the second traffic lights (Precinct 10 and Island Plaza will be on your right). At the traffic lights, turn right into Jalan Seri Tanjung Pinang (leading to Straits Quay). Immediately turn right, keep slow and turn left into the service road. That’s where Desa Tanjung is. Find a parking space and walk up 1st floor and you would see the restaurant there. Parking can be quite scare during certain peak period of the day. It’s advisable to park your car at the Island Plaza car park and walk over to the restaurant.

If you feel like having some BBQ and steamboat at an open area while enjoying the cool and soft breeze from the Andaman Sea, you should check out Asian Heritage Restaurant within the premises of Paradise Sandy Beach Resort Penang. The “Eat All You Can” BBQ and Steamboat would only cost you RM28+ (adult) / RM14+ (child) with lot of spreads to choose from, starting from appetizer, fresh seafood and vegetables to local and Western desserts.

ASIANHERITAGE01

To start off while waiting for your pot of soup to be boiled (option of clear chicken soup and tom yam soup), do check out the appetizer section for a light bite. There would be some salads and snacks of different dressings to get your appetite started.

ASIANHERITAGE02

At the steamboat section, there would be at least 8 types of fresh seafood and shellfish available daily. You would also get different shape and sizes of meat balls and fish balls, noodles and fresh vegetables abundantly displayed here.

ASIANHERITAGE03

To maintain the freshness of the BBQ items, they have a menu for you to choose from, ranging from marinated chicken, lamb, beef and fish. Don’t miss out the Char Siew Chicken, Barbeque Beef, Black Pepper Lamb and Curry Dory Fish. These few selections are simply irresistible!

ASIANHERITAGE04

There are a few desserts too for the package and that would include some local Nyonya delicacies, cakes, mousse and jellies.

ASIANHERITAGE05

Do keep a watch out for their coming promotion (most probably in June 2011) as they would be having a twist in their regular BBQ and Steamboat serving style. Don’t you love to have all your food on a bamboo skewer? Of course, you would be having Satay and Skewer Lok-Lok Celup Buffet – RM29.90+ (adult) / RM15.90+ (child & senior citizen). Your chosen skewers would be barbequed and delivered right to your table, with some spicy crushed peanuts dipping sauce (satay sauce). At the same time, you get to experience the Malacca Satay Celup, where you get to cook your skewers in a pot of boiling peanut sauce.

ASIANHERITAGE07

Well, some may think that having a buffet for dinner might be a little too heavy prior to going to bed. Don’t worry as they do have a wide range of dishes available in their ala carte menu. I did try out their Mushroom Bruschetta (RM13.50+) and Beef Lasagna (RM19.90+). Both the items were amazingly delicious. The bruschetta had sautéed mushrooms, mixed in creamy white sauce and served on toasted French loaf slices. The lasagna had layers of generously spread minced beef in tomato puree and topped with mixed cheese. I would think Garfield will frequent here more now. LOL!

ASIANHERITAGE06

Other than the above promotion, they also have Beer Festival all day long with a bucket of 5 bottles of Tiger Beer at only RM35+ or a choice of over 30 types of imported beers at normal price. If you feel bored during the weekend and felt like having a day off at the beach, do check out their Hi-Tea Buffet at RM8.90+ only. Don’t feel like drenching yourself in sweat during lunch hours under the humid weather? You can try out their Lunch Special Promotion (RM5+ per dish for the first 99 orders from Monday to Friday). Items available daily are as shown below:

ASIANHERITAGE08

Overall, Asian Heritage Restaurant is a great place to hang out, whether for a short meeting, family gathering, having some light snacks or even chilling out with friends. The only thing I feel the management should revise is the exclusion of beverages in their buffet promotions. All beverages ordered are additionally charged based on the price stated in their beverage menu.

It’s not hard to locate the restaurant as it’s within the premises of Paradise Sandy Beach Resort Penang. Drive all the way up towards Tanjung Bungah. As you see the Toy Museum (in front of Copthorne Hotel) on your right, keep to your right and make a U-turn at a junction further up before the traffic lights. The restaurant is just right inside the shoplots area of the Paradise Sandy Beach Resort’s car park. There will be a security guard house there. Don’t hesitate to ask for direction from the guard if you are not sure of the location.

If you are thinking of having a wide spread of dishes for your buffet dinner, why not pay Palms Coffee House at Hydro Hotel Penang a visit? You sure won’t regret as there are so many varieties of sweet and savory dishes for you to choose from Friday to Sunday. As for Friday Fiesta (RM55++), there would be a selected theme each week, namely Little China Town, Country & Western, Al Arabia Affair and Hawaiian Dazzle. You may want to call up 604-890 5999 ext 170 to check out the theme for that day. As for Saturday Special, it would be Saturday BBQ Buffet (RM65++). The Sunday Servings would be Oodles of Noodles at RM28++. Children would get to dine for half the price.

PALMSHYDRO01

Just to let you have an idea of what we had for the Saturday Buffet Dinner, I’ll show you section by section of the food served. For those who love starters, there was the salad corner with so many items to choose from ranging from just some DIY & ready-made salads, cold cuts, Japanese Sashimi, Oriental deep fried finger food to even our local favorite – the rojak (mixed local fruits and vegetables with shrimp paste). This section was very impressive and healthy indeed.

PALMSHYDRO02

As for the main buffet line, you would get some buns, soup, vegetables, clams, tofu, spaghetti to fried rice. What? Where those the only items I would get for paying RM65++? Where were the rest of meat, poultry and seafood then? Everyone was stunned! You can find all kinds of cuisines at Miami restaurants too.

PALMSHYDRO03

Unknowingly, some surprises awaited us by the pool side. A wide variety of well marinated meat, poultry and seafood were waiting for our orders to be grilled by the skillful staff of the hotel. There were chicken and beef satay, lamb, beef, chicken, prawns, stingrays, dory fish fillet, squids, flower crabs, mussels, chili stuffed Indian mackerel (ikan cincalok), mackerel (ikan kembung) and sausages available for us to choose from.

PALMSHYDRO04

For sweet tooth lovers, the dessert section would be heaven. There were endless rows of delightful bites ranging from local delicacies, tarts, cakes, jelly, mousse, pudding, ice cream and fruit cuts. The whole section was simply colorful and delicious!

PALMSHYDRO05

We were also lucky to be in the same venue as our local Ferrari Club members on that night. Everyone was drooling over the cars… err… and whoever in them. Now I have a problem choosing which car/human model. 😛

PALMSHYDRO08

By the way, the 4-stars Hydro Hotel Penang has some great suites if you intend to spend your vacation here. The sea facing suites sure give you a nice view of the horizon overseeing the Andaman Sea. Dawn and dusk sceneries can be quite beautiful for couples and families. You can always check up http://hydrohotelpenang.com/ for more information on the rooms and rates.

PALMSHYDRO06

Anyway, you can also get more discounts on food and lodging if you purchase the Friends of Hydro membership card. It’s only RM10 each. You would get 30% off the total food bill (buffet or ala carte), 15% off non alcoholic drinks and 50% off published room rates or 10% off best available rate, whichever is lower. Do also check out their other promotions too.

PALMSHYDRO07

It won’t be hard to locate the Palms Coffee House as it’s just within the premises of Hydro Hotel Penang. Drive all the way from Jalan Tanjung Tokong towards Batu Ferringhi/Teluk Bahang. When you see Mar Vista Resort on your left, you would be going into a hilly road. Immediately after the hilly stretch, you would see the Hydro Hotel Penang signboard on your left. Just turn left into the road and you would see the hotel on your right. You sure won’t miss it as there’s only one pedestrian bridge from the hotel leading to Miami Beach front.

ALL YEAR ROUND BUFFET SPREAD AT HARDWICKE HOUSE

Posted by crizlai On December - 18 - 2009

Note: This place has ceased operation in mid 2010.

Most of the time, major hotels within the Pearl of Island, Penang, would only hold buffet during weekends and special occasions. With the opening of Hardwicke House BBQ & Buffet Restaurant barely few months back, you can now have the opportunity to have buffet any day during lunch and dinner.

What is the difference between the food served at Hardwicke House and hotels? Well, practically none. Both of them have the same style of serving dishes from appetizers, salads, meat dishes to desserts but Hardwicke excels one step ahead with the availability of fresh seafood and meat grill DAILY for dinners at RM38++ per pax. Lunch would be at RM18++ minus the grill menus. Let us have a peek at what style of food would be available on a typical dinner evening.

As starters, we had Cream of Asparagus with some dinner rolls accompanied with butter cubes and some jars of crispy papadam and some crackers.

The salad section was quite impressive. Other than the usual salad greens, there were also some corn kernels, kidney beans, cherry tomatoes, button mushrooms, olives, raisins, cherries, pea sprouts (豆苗,dou miao) and swirl pasta for us to mix and match to our own liking. As for dressing, there were quite many choices such as mayonnaise, creamy French, vinaigrette, coleslaw, creamy Italian, thousand island and of course some mustard too.

The main buffet spread for the night consisted mainly of some local, Indian and Western cuisines. We had fried rice, fried noodles, cabbage poriel, brinjal sambal, dhal, lamb rogan josh, chicken curry, roast beef, baked cured salmon with cheese, chicken lor bak (chicken rolls), crispy Vietnam prawn roll and spaghetti and beef Bolognese sauce. This was not a bad spread for those lamb and beef lovers.

As for the grill section which would only be available for those dinner patrons, the options would be more. There would be roast lamb leg, steaks, sausages, prawns, squids, fish, clams and of course there would also be tandoori chicken. You can also choose what you want as side dishes such as mash potatoes, baby carrots and corn kernels. On top of that, you can choose whichever gravy you would like to have such as BBQ sauce, mushroom sauce or even black pepper sauce.

Sweet tooth lovers would surely love their desserts section. On top of their many options such as homemade cakes, tarts, mousse, jelly, fruits, brewed coffee and tea, there are also many flavors of ice cream with your choice of toppings such as strawberry, caramel and chocolate.

If you think the beverages would not have the “boost” to energize you, there’s always the option to order some good old hot cup of “special” coffee. Of course these would not be covered under the buffet menu. They have Guatemala SHB Arabia, Kenia AA Arabia, Java WIB Robusta, Costarica Arabia SHB, Espresso Coffee Pod “Oro”, Decaffeinated Espresso Coffee Pod “Oro” to give you your favorite Espresso, Ice Berg, Regular Black, Cappucino, Flat White or even just a Latte.

Some people might want to have some wine to go with the meal. There would be many unique and established brand of wine for you to choose from the wine house. Some of the recommended would be the Friulvini Verduzzo IGT, a straw yellow colored wine with a pleasantly, amiable, slightly acidulous and full bodied which had a hint of fruity taste. This would go well with confectionery, salads and fruits. The next would be the Chilean Terranoble Sauvignon Blanc 2005. This slightly yellowish colored wine would be fresh, dry and well balanced for your consumption. It would be ideal to go with fish and seafood. There would also be the New Zealand produced Schubert Hardwicke Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2002, the deeply red colored wine would exhibit an intense nose of blackberries, plum, chocolate with notes of walnut and spice. This red wine would be great with your meaty meals.

There are many ongoing promotions from Hardwicke House this festive season. You might want to click and enlarge the photo below to view more on their December-January promotion.

For Christmas, check out their Christmas promotion too. It’s best that you call up to reserve your table to avoid disappointment.

If you are coming from town along Jalan Burma, drive all the way until you see a “Y” junction. Left would lead you to Pulau Tikus. Right would lead you to Gurney Drive. Turn left into Jalan Pangkor (keep to your right). Immediately after you see Gleneagles Medical Centre on your right, slow down. Turn right into the service road and you would see a purplish building (Northam Tower). Hardwicke House is just in front of the building. You would not miss the white colored colonial architectural building.

EAT UNTIL YOU DROP BUFFET AT JL STEAMBOAT RESTAURANT

Posted by crizlai On May - 26 - 2009

Note: This restaurant had ceased its operation and in its place is a new bak kut teh outlet.

JLSTEAMBOAT

The management of JL Steamboat Restaurant had individually invited some of us recently to try out their food. Instead, we ended up having a group review. It was actually a fun gathering with the wacky companies of some of our Penang floggers which consist of Steven, Buzzing Bee, Jian, Allen Ooi and Mary Teo. The place was rather cozy with soft music and yet dimly light cubicles. It would be a bonus for those people who love to dine in privacy. Each table would come with an electronically temperature control hot plate which you do not see much at many steamboat restaurants.

TEMPERATURECONTROL

When reaching the entrance of the restaurant, you would see a worker cooking up varieties of delicious meaty and seafood grills. The aroma flowing through the air got me hungry while waiting for the rest to arrive. I guessed this was one way to stop everyone from coming out of the restaurant smelling like a barbequed item. What else would you expect from an air conditioned restaurant right? LOL! Moreover, it was the management’s special treatment to ease its customers from getting splattered with greasy substance. You can see quite a variety of meats and seafood on the spread, including teppanyaki seafood skewers.

Upon entering you can see rows of other items meant for steamboat consisting basically a lot of meat and fish “balls”, some meat and intestines, mushrooms and seafood.

ITEM1

One top of these, there would be some choices of noodles such as glass noodles, rice noodles, emperor’s noodles (王帝麵) and instant noodles. Other than fresh chicken eggs, there were also some vegetables such as Chinese cabbage, Cameron lettuce, cabbage and water morning glory (water spinach, kangkung, 蕹菜). I found one major vegetable ideal for steamboat missing here – the vitamin A rich crown-daisy chrysanthemum leaves (tang oh, 茼蒿). Maybe the vegetables were not in season then. Were they not or was it due to not many people liking the pungent smell? I won’t know for sure. The restaurant could also consider adding in some bundled spring onion stalks to widen the spread.

VEGETABLES

Prior to starting the meal or waiting for your other guests to arrive, you can have the option to start off with some basic side dishes. They may include dishes like fried rice, fried noodles, fried chicken wings, nuggets or fish cakes.

SIDEDISHES

We started off the meal with two of the four available steamboat stock, clear chicken soup and fish soup. The chicken soup was thick and nice except towards the end it became a bit too salty. So was the fish soup which was served to us with a few slices of ginger to cut down on the fishy taste. The restaurant should have had someone around to ask us if we would like to dilute the saltiness with some boiling water but no one did that. If they were to look into providing better service, at least they should look into this aspect of getting feedback from us. Of the two, I loved the fish stock more.

SOUPGRILL

The next batches of stocks were the herbal soup and tom yam soup. The herbal soup was nicely brewed with the right amount of herbs. There were some hints of wolfberries and ginseng roots and the taste was beautiful until the end of our meal. The fragrance and slight bitterness from the soup base would be ideal for those herbal soup lovers. Unfortunately, the tom yam soup was not up to my preference. It was too mild for my taste bud. It lacked the pungent taste and fragrance from some lemongrass stalks. I guessed I’m so use to the tom yam soup I had at Village Café.

If you were to ask me to rate my preferences, it would be the fish soup, herbal soup, chicken soup and tom yam soup. My note to the management on the aspect of healthy dining would be to maintain the soup as natural as they can as most of the pre-processed items on the buffet spread already had the saltiness, preservative and sweetness in them. Even the sugar levels in the free flow chilled green tea and lemon tea were a bit too much for most of us there. A non sugar and hot beverage item such as Chinese tea would be a great addition.

When it comes to sauces for steamboat and grills, I would say they have a great selection of pre-packed and homemade sauces. We had many choices such as tomato sauce, chili sauce, Thai chili sauce, soy sauce with bird’s eye chili, garlic oil, fresh chopped garlic, sate sauce, sambal udang tumis, Thai spicy green sauce and even Sukiyaki sauce specially meant for the teppanyaki skewers and grills. The sambal udang tumis which was somewhat like the curry mee chili paste, with added pounded dried shrimps remained my favorite.

SAUCES

Can you guess how much we ate that night? Frankly, we did not really eat that much as there were more ladies than men (even included my paying god-bro). We only had these for the 4 different soups.

SELECTION2

On top of that, these grilled items were served to us almost continuously.

SELECTION1

Although most of us are stuffed that night, we still did not forgo the dessert section. With the beautifully twisted marshmallow on a skew and finger biscuits waving at us, welcoming us to dip them into the chocolate fountain, who could resist the temptation? There were also jellies, fresh fruits and black glutinous rice dessert.

DESSERTS

That was not the end to our enjoyment on top of our endless jokes and hilarious moments. All of us went back to our childhood years playing “masak-masak”. LOL! You can see some of us dripping saliva while trying to make something out from our “play dough”. Everyone wanted to have a hand in making their best decorated ice cream with the few different flavors of ice creams, chopped pickled cherries and rice candies. The results – everyone came up top… in their own category. LOL! Here are some of the masterpieces.

CREATION

Their over 100 variety of picks buffet is at RM17.90nett (adult), RM14.90nett (senior citizen) for only lunch time from Monday to Friday. As for dinner and weekends, it would be at RM21.90nett (adult), RM16.90nett (senior citizen). Children would get to enjoy the buffet at RM8.90nett at all time and it’s free for children below 3 years old. Presently, they are still having their set lunch promotion (since April 2009) priced at RM6.90 which is inclusive of free flow of drinks and a dessert. SETLUNCHMENU

Finding JL Steamboat Restaurant won’t be hard as it’s located within Nagore Place (nearby New World Park). Find your way down Jalan Burma and keep a look out for the red paint splattered designed Tune Hotel building on your right. Immediately after that would be the New World Park food court. Watch out for the 2nd junction on your right after that. Turn right into Jalan Nagore and drive until a cross junction (Jalan Bawasah/Jalan Nagore). You can see the restaurant on your right (next to Sugar Dynasty Food Delight corner lot) after the cross junction. Parking could be quite limited here during lunch time and you should have lots of loose change too as the parking meter would go on until midnight. If you do not want to have the hassle of driving around finding a free space, I would recommend that you park your car within the New World Park parking lot and walk up to the restaurant.
