Meat lovers would be happy as The Glasshouse @ The Prestige Hotel, Penang, has just launched its Saturday Dinner and Sunday Lunch Hot Roast Buffet yesterday. The Saturday Hot Roast Buffet Dinner is priced at only RM68+ (adult) and RM58+ (senior citizen) from 7.00pm until 10.00pm on every Saturdays, whereas the Sunday Hot Roast Buffet Lunch is priced at only RM58+ (adult) and RM48+ (senior citizen) from 12.00pm until 2.30pm on every Sundays. Basically, there would be 2 main meat options on rotation at the carving station each weekend such as Roasted Herb Whole Chicken, Roasted Beef Sirloin or Roasted Lamb Leg, served with mini Yorkshire puddings, various gravy and condiments.

There would be more dishes available such as DIY salad toss, mixed salad, soup of the day with Cajun sticks and assorted bread slices, starch of the day, fruits and desserts as well as hot and cold beverages.

Sometimes, simplicity is at its best when the selection of the buffet spreads would be just adequate for your dining pleasure without hurting the pocket at all. That’s what Kopitiam @ Bayview Hotel Georgetown Penang has been stressing on – Quality vs Quantity. The main buffet spreads would consist of various dishes with higher notes on local flavors from salad, appetizer, main, desserts to local street fares. Our thumbs-ups would go to the tactfully prepared Malay-Style Fish Curry and Nyonya-Style Kapitan Chicken Curry, not forgetting their street food dishes such as their Hainanese Chicken Rice, Char Koay Teow, Laksa Kahwin, Mua Chee and so on which I personally felt tasted much better than some of those stalls outside the hotel.

The dish which attracted me most and is not found anywhere else in Penang from my knowledge was their Signature Laksa Kahwin, a combination of the best from the North and South of the Baba Nyonya community, namely the Nyonya Assam Laksa of Penang and the Nyonya Curry Laksa of Malacca. With the addition of Penang’s famous Hae Ko (petis udang/shrimp paste), it was a bowl of heavenly made dish which could be quite addictive, with or without the Penang-style laksa noodles.

Overall, I was quite impressed with the buffet spread especially the roasted meat section where the kitchen had put in some fusion ideas into the dishes of yesteryears. You might have tasted Chicken Char Siew elsewhere but the idea of Lamb Char Siew was something way out from the world.

The Bungalow @ Lone Pine Hotel is located at the beach front of the hotel. After passing Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa on your right, you would reach a cross junction with traffic lights. After the traffic lights slow down, keep to your right and you would a small sign leading to Lone Pine Hotel just right after the Golden Sands Resort. Find a parking space within and just walk into the entrance of the hotel. You would see the Batubar on your right. Just keep to your right walk until the end where you can see the entrance to a bungalow. You won’t miss the restaurant.

Let’s start with a typical menu you might get for lunch during weekdays. At the Salad Bar, Appetizer & Cold Dishes Section, you would expect to get a selection of fresh greens, condiments and dressings, accompanied by some ready-made salads and cold cuts such as Kerabu Telur, Kerabu Mango, Roasted Chicken with Mushroom Salad, Gado Gado, Fajita-Marinated Beef with Avocado Cream, Penang Famous Fruit Rojak, Cold Cuts, Prawn Crackers, Fish Crackers and Papadum.

At the Main Dishes Section, you would have a selection of local cum international dishes such as Ikan Panggang dengan Air Assam, Wok Fried Mussels with Black Bean Sauce, Fried Okra with Belacan, Nyonya Chicken Pong Tei, Ayam Masak Madu, Kambing Masak Merah, Dhall Masak Sayur, Kari Ikan Kepala dengan Bendi, Mee Mamak, Steamed Rice, Nasi Minyak Hujan Panas (also known as Nasi Dhalca), Minced Lamb Kofta on Onion Compote, Chicken Scaloppini with Beef Bacon and Sage, Oven Baked Red Snapper Fillet Lemon Infused Cream Sauce, Baked Fennel with Pepper and Tomato, Homemade Mushroom Cannelloni Filled with Cheese and Spinach and more.

There will also be the Action Counter where you can get other deep fried items for your Nasi Kandar, such as Udang Goreng, Ayam Goreng, Ketam Goreng and Ikan Goreng. Do also take note that there might also be a special dish of the day such as the Telur Ikan Masak Lemak Seri Kayangan being served here. Other than that, you might find dishes such as Yong Tau Foo, Mamak Popiah, Murtabak Ayam, Teppanyaki Chicken, Ais Kacang and Cendol available here.

At the Desserts Section, other than your fresh fruit cuts, you would get an assortment of cakes, pastries, jellies and Nyonya kuih here. Free flow of ice creams, coffee and tea are also available.

Overall, the food served here can be quite interesting as you would get to try out multi-national Malaysian cuisine as well as different Penang street food on different days during this promotion.

If you are coming from Georgetown towards Bayan Lepas Free Trade Zone via Bayan Lepas Expressway, do watch out for the Pulau Jerejak signboard (leading to Pulau Jerejak jetty). Ignore the turning and drive on to the next left junction. Turn left into Jalan Aziz Ibrahim and drive on until you a roundabout. Turn 3 o’ clock and drive on until you see a big Eastin Hotel signboard at the first right junction. Turn right and drive on. Park your car at the basement car park.
